What a convincing way to get your first win of the season. Really, really good win for this team. The defense looked sharp, not letting up a point until the fourth quarter. The story on the defense for me, and the MVP of the game was senior linebacker, Gerald Hodges. The dude played out of his mind yesterday. He had an early interception near our own goal line, was in on a forced fumble, and added a bunch of tackles. Hodges, along with senior Michael Mauti, were the anchors of the defense yesterday. Mauti was again all over the field, being in on every play that came his way.
In terms of the offense, I hate to admit it, but quarterback Matt McGloin looked great yet again. The better he does, the more I start to despise him. Why couldn't he have done even half of this last year? Last year we had a legit defense, better offensive players around him, and most importantly something to play for. If he had stepped up last year we could have played in the Big Ten championship game. Instead, he destroyed any chance we had at going somewhere. I can't be too mad at him though because he is carrying the offense this year and I still would like to see us win. Sam Ficken again struggled with some consistency issues by making 4 out of 5 extra points. Yes. He missed an extra point. He's awful. The fact he is on scholarship is just ridiculous.
But whatever, good game and win when we really needed one. The important thing now is to follow it up next week against a really tough Temple team.
