In rather unsurprising fashion, the USA men's basketball team took gold from the Gasol's, Ibaka and the Spaniards. First off, in what world is Serge Ibaka Spanish? Dude is straight from the Congo. I guess it's a moot point because they lost, but getting a quality player like that because of some technicality is pretty lucky. I digress. KD35 led the line for the boys with 30 and 9 boards, kid is scary good despite having the build of a 12 year old anorexic girl. LeBron I guess had a good tournament, but its just so hard to root for him even when he's playing for your country. Just the most unlikeable guy, kinda hope for an injury every time he plays the Knicks. Partly because he torches the Bockers, but also because he's a dirtbag. My love/hate relationship with Carmelo is at an all time high. Guy goes nuts in the Olympics, shreds up a real sad Nigerian team led by Tony Skinn, former George Mason great, yet all Knick fans know he can't repeat that type of shit when he puts on the orange and blue. Maybe once in a while, but not consistently enough to be the player New Yorkers want him to be. Melo's Olympic outburst was a product of the people he played around, he goes from "Magic" Mike Bibby and Toney Douglas struggling with their dribbles and such, (honestly what is wrong with Toney Douglas' parents, that "e" in Tony is so unnecessary its not even funny and Bibby is just plain bad) to CP3 and Deron Williams running the show. Plus he's got Kobe and LeBron out there drawing most of the defense's attention so he becomes a classic spot up 3 shooter a la Steve Novak. And if Melo can do one thing, its hit an open jump shot. Melo's not a douche like LeBron, so I pull for him to do well. I just want to see him do what he can, dude can defend if he wants to, can pass if he wants to, but it's just a matter of if he wants to bad enough. I guess we'll see what the deal is come November, but let's hope Carmelo takes something away from the Olympics and wants to win a title like his boys on the USA team. By the way, how awkward is practice when D'antoni says something to Melo? Do you think Mike D makes snide remarks like, "Pass and move, it won't get you fired, uh I mean it won't kill you." Melo must have thought he was done with this guy when he ran him out of town, nope, he's on the Olympic Staff in Coach K's ear, rough sauce, bro.
