MLB Regular Season Over

Cain was Perfect in 2012
What a long and strange season it has been for Major League Baseball. We have seen the entire culture of the game change over the past few seasons, transforming from a league filled with power hitters and high scoring games, to a more old school pitchers league. We have seen 7 no hitters  this season, and five closers with over 40 saves. Craig Kimbrel of the Atlanta Braves has had what most experts are calling the greatest season a closer has ever had. He posted 42 saves, while blowing only 3, and holding down a 1.01 ERA while fanning 116 batters, and may end up winning the NL Cy Young award in the end.

We saw rookies Mike Trout, and Bryce Harper take the league and the world by storm, restoring hope to Washington and bringing something new to love in Anaheim. Trout had probably the best season of any rookie ever, and is probably still the favorite to win the AL MVP. The both of them hit for over 20 home runs, with Trout hitting the 30 mark. The scary thing is that the both of these guys are just getting started, and that we as fans can expect bigger and better things from them in the near future.

I Hate Everything About You
We saw epic collapses of teams like the Pirates and Dodgers, and teams that never really got going in the first place like the Red Sox. As a result Bobby Valentine, aka Satin, is out of a job and the Red Sox are spiraling in the wrong direction. The powerhouse AL East is shifting now to feature the Yankees, Rays, and the surprisingly talented Orioles, a  team that has made the playoffs for the first time in a decade.  The Red Sox, considered by many at the start of the season as the most talented team in the league, have now gutted their roster and seem to be in rebuilding mode. Which is the exact thing every Yankee fan has wanted to hear since their birth.

Most importantly we saw Miguel Cabrera become the first triple crown winner since 1967, and I feel like it kind of snuck up on us. It wasn't really until the last month of the season that people started to notice that this could happen. Cabrera will now be cemented in history as one of the all time great hitters, winning probably the most coveted individual accolade for a hitter that the MLB has to offer. Yet, people still debate who the AL's most valuable player should be.

All in all, this has been one wild and awesome MLB regular season, and I expect nothing less in the postseason.

Go Yankees.
