In the first final of the controversial ending to the 2012 MLB season the Athletics capped off an improbable run to leap frog the Rangers who had a 2 game lead in the division as of Monday. With the sweep of the Rangers, the Athletics avoid the dreaded one game wild card playoff game and have assured themselves either the 1 or the 2 seed.
The Rangers on the other hand, will head to that playoff game Friday night, but a lot is still on the line in the Yankees vs Red Sox and Orioles vs Rays games. Both games have 7:00 start times and when they finish the playoff picture will become a lot clearer.
As of now these are the lone scenarios remaining:
* - if one game playoff Thursday is forced between Yankees and Orioles it will take place in Baltimore
